The Cambridge shelves are full of good things for spring! Come check them out!
]]>The Cambridge shelves are full of good things for spring, like these Piselli Biscotti right from Italy. Piselli has been in Perugia since 1946 and they've certainly perfected their sweets. The cookies come in three equally delectable varieties, stuffed with hazelnut cream, chocolate, or apple. Serve them with vanilla ice cream or eat them right out of the bag!
On the savory side, Las Tapitas Spanish flatbreads are perfect with cheeses, dips, soups, salads, the list goes on. These rustic crackers come from the Andalucia Province in Spain and are made with extra virgin olive oil for a light, crisp flavor. Try them in Rosemary & Sea Salt or Manchego Cheese, the perfect afternoon appetizer. Come check out our new selections to get your table ready for spring.

]]>Our pizza dough mignons are versatile enough to be perfect party appetizers or Friday night dinner for the whole family. With six in a package, these petite doughs can be rolled out to make personalized pizzas for everyone at the table. Top them with our tried and true pesto and cheese combinations, go classic with Plum Tomato & Basil sauce and sliced Homemade Mozzarella, or pick your favorite sauce and go wild with toppings. Try:
Directions
1. Pre-heat oven to 500 F and place the rack in the lower middle of the oven. Remove mignons from their package and let them come to room temperature.
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the mignons to about 1/4 inch thickness.
3. Place pizzas on an oiled baking sheet and cook for 5 minutes to brown.
4. Remove from the oven and add your toppings. Cook until bubbling and done. Enjoy!

]]>The title of this post says it all. A meatball sub is one of the tastiest meals around and you can make your own in just a few minutes with our Flat Bottom Meatballs or Chicken Meatballs with Plum Tomato Sauce. Grab a personal-sized portion and pop it in the microwave. We pair ours with crusty Clear Flour French baguette and top it with grated Parmigiano Reggiano. The heat from the meatballs melts the cheese and the bread soaks up the extra tomato sauce. Make this easy lunch a family-friendly dinner with our entrée-sized meatballs, heated in the oven or microwave. Most of all, enjoy!

]]>If you're feeling sick (or just sick of winter's chill), and our Mediterranean Chicken Soup didn't do the trick, reach for a container of our Poblano Chile Chili. Made with beef chuck, pork, and red beans, it's a full-bodied chili with tons of flavor from green olives, red bell peppers, green onion, and basil. Mild poblano chiles from Mexico add just enough heat to counter a stuffy nose and meat and beans get you your protein fix. This entrée comes in large and personal sizes, so you can even pack it as a lunch-time pick me up to feel better quick.

Looking for a last minute hostess gift? Don't worry-- we've got plenty of delicious ideas!
1. Forget the standard bottle of wine and bring a bottle of red wine vinegar. A nice bottle of Balsamic will last longer than the course of dinner and your hosts will think of you whenever they enjoy it.
The Crismona Crianza wine vinegar is what we use for the Capone Foods Spanish Vinaigrette gift bag. Along with extra virgin olive oil and an assertive Dijon mustard, it makes all the essentails for a classic vinaigrette.
2. A specialty honey or a fig spread will be a great complement to an appetizer cheese plate.
Pick up an assortment of Solmielato Honey small jars for a variety of flavors or a large jar of a fan favorite like the Orange or Lemon Blossom.
3. Who can say no to cookies?
Local company Toni's Own makes traditional Anisette, Pizzelle and Lemon Burst cookies. All of them taste best with a cup of coffee or tea!
Check out the display table at our Cambridge store for more gifts to show your gratitude.

]]>Food always tastes best when shared with friends and family. Local customer Natalie let us in on one of her favorite ways to enjoy Capone Foods ravioli with her loved ones: as toasted appetizers!
Natalie recommends boiling the ravioli as directed before searing them in olive oil in a very hot pan until toasted on one side. She says the texture change adds a new level of flavor to the pasta. She likes to top them with Argentine Sardo (less salty than Parmigiano) and serve with toothpicks to get the party started.
Pick up a flavor variety for your next gathering and assorted pestos and sauces on the side for dipping. Have your friends choose their favorite and fill us in!

]]>On Monday we discussed pairings for our Putanesca Sauce and this past weekend we tasted Villa Oro's Picual olive oil in Cambridge, so today let's talk about olives and the cheeses that go with them.
Our Spiced Pitted Sicilian Green Olives are marinated with garlic, red pepper, oregano, and other spices. They're a key ingredient in our Argentine empanadas and an excellent addition to chicken or pork dinners. Enjoy them with a cheddar cheese.
Our Sicilian Oil Cured Olives are concentrated and a little salty. Marinate them with garlic, hot pepper, and olive oil or heat on the stove for a warm olive appetizer. Pair with our Homemade Ricotta and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt.
Classic Greek Kalamata olives love to get cozy with Feta cheese while bright green and buttery Cerignola Olives go well in lamb dishes and with a creamy Asiago.
And, of course, they all go well with a glass of wine (or a martini)!

Our Putanesca sauce is a typical Southern Italian red sauce, with a kick.
]]>What to put with Putanesca?
Our Putanesca sauce is a typical Southern Italian red sauce, with a kick. It features garlic, parsley, olives, onions, roasted peppers, red wine, and red pepper flakes. Capers and anchovies lend a layer of saltiness to this bold sauce that is one of four ingredients in our Baked Eggplant recipe. Putanesca needs a pasta that can hold its own, which is why we recommend our fresh Squid Ink pasta, as well as our Chicken & Prsosciutto Ravioli or Aged Gouda Tortellni. Go ahead and kick dinner up a notch with this deliciously assertive sauce.

Serve with a drizzle of your best olive oil and a slice of Clear Flour Bakery's Rustic Italian bread.

]]>October is the one month of the year that pumpkins get to take center-stage. They're in our lattes, our desserts, and on our front stoops, but we believe this delicious gourd deserves a place on the dinner table, too. Our Pumpkin and Squash Ravioli is a lemon-flavored pasta chock-full of cheese and seasonal squashes (did you know pumpkin is a squash?). We cook them with butter, shallots, and Marsala wine, and they pair beautifully with our Alfredo with Shallots Sauce. Serve with a bitter green, like arugula or kale, to balance out the sweetness or top with roasted chicken for a full meal.

]]>This week, we have sweets on the brain.
If you've spent any time salivating over our sweet empanada case (it's okay, we do it, too), then you've probably wondered, "What's the deal with dulce de leche?" To solve the mystery, it's a sweet sauce made of caramelized sugar and milk. Popular in South America, dulce de leche is used in candies, desserts, and breakfast treats. It can be eaten in cakes, cookies, and cheesecakes, but we like it best in our empanadas. We pair it with ricotta for a flaky pastry fit for breakfast, dessert, or both. And, of course, we can't forget the dulce drizzle.

]]>We love when our customers love our food! Marsha from Somerville jokes that when Al sees her come in to the store, he knows she's headed right to the pumpkin pasta. We carry this seasonal treat from October to January, which can be a heartbreak for a devoted customer like Marsha. She says she was upset to see it gone this summer and was very happy when a friend texted her to say it was back on the shelves.
Marsha has tried all kinds of pasta and sauce combinations and says Capone's Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto is a great complement to the pumpkin and nutmeg flavor.
"I like the sweet taste of the pumpkin. It has a lot of body, and the Sun-Dried Tomato gives it a little kick."
Come by Somerville or Cambridge and pick up a bag of pumpkin pasta to try this delicious pairing for yourself.
